Cycling in San Diego

San Diego is a cycling-friendly town, with an abundance of shops, clubs and group rides, and is the off-season training ground for plenty of pros. It has great climate and there’s tremendous variety of places in the county you can go, whether you’ve got a road bike, mountain bike or beach cruiser. While many tourists like to rent bikes and ride along the Mission Beach Boardwalk, Mission Bay’s Sail Bay is a much more tranquil environment.

It’s always fun to drive along this coastal route, but you’ll find even more charm if you explore the beach towns on a bicycle. If you’re new to mountain biking, this is a good place to start because it’s nice and wide and not too far from civilization. If you prefer riding in a more urban setting, stick to Adams Avenue. There’s not as much traffic as in some of the trendy midtown areas (like 30th Street), but it still offers bike-friendly scenery and stops.
